My name is C. D'S. and I live in Sydney, Australia. I had arrived in Split on a cruise boat at the end of a week's trip from Dubrovnik touring the beautiful towns along the Croatian coastline. I came to the Emergency Department of the hospital in Split on 16 September 2023. I was in a lot of pain from a swollen throat gland. Shortly after arriving about 9.30 am a nurse saw me and took me into the rooms to see a doctor. I saw dr. Mladen Frankic (otorinolaringologije). He examined me thoroughly and could see I was upset with my condition. I had been in so much pain throughout the previous night I could not even swallow my saliva. He assured me he would be able to help me and not to worry. Dr. Frankic decided to give me a steroid injection and ask me to wait in the hospital a few hours to see how the condition improved. I was taken to another room and then given a bed to lie down while I waited. The nurse came and gave me the intravenous drip which also included pain killers. I stayed there for about four hours. He observed me again after two hours and then again early in the afternoon when I could feel swallowing was possible. He agreed the swelling had gone down a little. So I asked to be able to leave and he gave me an antibiotic prescription. I was feeling able to cope with swallowing so was happy to be able to leave and spend the next day in Split before departing to my next destination. I just want to thank the doctor especially and the nursing staff for their prompt and efficient treatment. Dr. Mladen reassured me when I was feeling very ill that it would be alright. I came to the hospital as the Centre for Tourists was not open at 9 am where I had originally been advised to go. It is a credit to the hospital that you have an emergency department that can attend to tourists as well as the local people in such a caring and thorough way.
Yours sincerely,
